Gear
Does gear matter? Well sometimes it does, but the brand does not. Just choose what you are confortable with and learn how to use it to its full potential. As a landscape photographer I do not need to have the newest model, a lot of my most favorit photos were made on a Canon 6D.
I would recommend to buy gear second hand, this makes it a lot more affordable. And I never had a bad experience with second hand gear sofar.
Cameras
Canon Eos 5DSR
My main camera, as a landscape photographer it is the best value for your money. What I like the most about it, is that I can crop my images heavily. This camera is out of production and can only be bought second hand. I have owned it since 2017 and it never let me down..
Canon Eos R
This is my backup camera, paired with the RF 24-240 lens, it is my light weight “one lens” setup, I use it on longer hikes for scouting new locations. It is really a great all-around camera.
Zoom Lenses
EF 24-70mm IS USM
This is my standard zoom lens, its light and offers good image quality. It also has dedicated macro mode that comes in handy, when I do not have my macro lens with me.
Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM
Wide angle lens, excellent optical performance and light weight.
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM
A very versatile telephoto lens which offers great image and build quality, while being relatively light weight. This is certainly my favorite lens.
Canon RF 24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM
If I just could pick one lens for a trip, this would be it. I use it in combination with my Eos R for long hikes and scouting trips. The focal range covers almost all of my needs. Unfortunately its not weather sealed.
Prime Lenses
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM
The plastic fantastic, it offers good image quality and very light weight. I use this lens for austophotography. .
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Old but gold, it gets the job done. Great image quality for a small price tag. I use this lens for makro photography.
SAMYANG 14MM F/2.8 ED AS IF UMC for Canon
Ultra wide angle prime lens, fantastic for astro photography.
Tripods & Heads
iFootage Gazelle Tripod TC9-Fastbowl
Acratech Panoramic Head
Gets the job done, Great build quality but expensive.
Velbon Ultra 655 Stativ
My second tripod, actually this is the first one I bought, its still working flawless after 10 years of useage. I use it as a backup or if I want to set up both cameras at once. I use it with a Siriu ballhead.
SIRUI K-10X
The first ballhead that I bought in 2012, its still working flawlessly, speaks for its build quailty.
Backpacks
Boblbee PROCAM 500XT
I used this pack on almost every week since 2012, its comfortable to wear and I can carry up to 2 full frame camera bodies and 4 lenses with me. Once had to replace the main zipper. Its expensive but its build quality is well worth its price.
